(III) Samuel, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Ogden) Purdy, lived in Rye, Westchester County, New York, until 1749, when he moved to White Plains, where he died in 1753. He was a man highly respected and while living in Rye he filled a number o offices of trust, such as justice of the peace, supervisor, town clerk, and overseer. He was appointed school master in 1733, filling that position until he left Rye, in 1749. He married Penelope, daughter of Daniel and Charlotte Strang. Children; 1 Samuel, married Wineford Griffen. 2. Henry, married Mary Foster. 3. Gabriel, married Eliza Miller. 4. Josiah, married Charity, daughter of Rev. James Wetmore. 5. Caleb, of whom further. 6. Charlotte, married Samuel Fowler, 7. Clara, married George Merritt. 8. Elizabeth, married Josiah Fowler.
